&Ranj — Playfully realizing behavioral change
Serious Gaming
Rotterdam based company &Ranj is specialist in serious gaming. The company shines a new light on life challenges by using game thinking methodology. The most important thing to &Ranj is the end user. The focus lays on their intrinsic motivations and the behavior that requires change.
&Ranj:
“Mixing the right elements of play at the right time is the key to achieving behavioral change and making a real and positive impact.”
Since its origin – late 2018 – Rich Dust worked with &Ranj on many exciting serious games. Rich played different roles in each of them. From strategist, concept thinker, visual designer to art director. The main focus in most of the collaborations is on the first part of the design process. The concept followed by the visual design. Agile working is important to &Ranj. Real talk, real act, real collaboration. As soon as the right elements are created, talented designers of &Ranj take over and the game develops itself further.
The following three examples are a mix of concepts, design proposals and end results.
&Ranj — 1. Stress prevention on the workfloor
Prevent-it
Post-its: present in almost every work environment. They symbolize to do lists, tasks and assignments. Metaphor for increasing stress? What if we clear this up and use this metaphor — for work related things — to our advantage and turn it into something positive? Literally use the post-it as a starting point and game element. Fold it up to create an attractive and friendly world, in which you learn to manage your energy and stress. Paper folded Office Eagles vs Office Bats. Let’s play & learn. Forget post-it, prevent-it. Stress less. Work is fun!
&Ranj — 2. Unbiased recruitment of employees

&Ranj — 3. Outbreak Simulation Response
Sketch
&Ranj is developing a simulation for team leaders of NGOs working in regions with refugee camps. The aim is to better prepare them for an outbreak of a new disease (such as Corona). They strive for a more integrated approach, in which the efforts of various national and international NGOs are better aligned.
The game is about proactively gathering information, setting priorities to avoid disasters. The game has a First Person View. The information you have to manage is presented quite literally throughout the game, such as phone messages; emails; etc. The images shown below were the first design proposals.
