iET — A cinematic & musical experience

Musician next door

Lisa van Viegen Mokoginta and Rich Dust are neighbors. They live in the picturesque Nassau district near the old city centre of Schiedam — just across the dike that connects Schiedam to Rotterdam. For a long time they didn’t talk about each other’s craft, but subconsciously felt it had to be great, and fulfilled with infinite passion. They seemed to postpone the moment to ask one another. By not talking about it… they kept the mystery. But as is often the case, talent does not remain undiscovered. Rich Dust realized that Lisa is the extraordinary musician, called iET.

iET — Small world, big inspiration

The little crisis

When Rich Dust met Lisa / iET (mid-2019), she just became mother. A long time dream became reality. Yet, Lisa experienced the first period as lonely and heavy. The attention and love that a small child needs requires a lot of time and energy. Lisa’s hunger to create and express through music remained strong. The performances, the festivals, the interaction with large groups of people had to make way for the care and attention for one sweet person. How could Lisa be a successful artist and a loving mother at the same time? With time and space for herself and her child? Suddenly, the world seemed so small. Lisa realized in order to be happy, she needs to create. She started to see the beauty of the small world around her and learned to appreciate it more than ever. It gave her new inspiration. She bounced back and started writing new songs. She could now fully enjoy her child, her husband and the life around them.

The big crisis

What Lisa experienced on a small scale was expressed on a large scale in December 2019. People’s world became smaller. Not because of a baby boom but because of a tiny intruder who turned the entire world upside down; COVID-19. The world population experienced what it is like to live inside a small bubble, restricted to home. Many people felt alone. Limited in their freedom of movement. Cut off from family and social connections. Recognizable emotions.

iET — Home and chambers

Wonderful neighbours lead to wonderful projects

Rich Dust & iET decided to create a world that visually connects to her new album. A visual and musical experience, accessible to a wide audience. Perhaps it could inspire people to break out of their own bubble. To discover the small, beautiful things that can be found in their immediate environment, to draw strength and motivation from them, as happened in the home of iET.

iET describes the album as her home, the songs as chambers — Nine chambers, nine portraits

IET — Album portraits

Home of iET

Lisa wrote an album about her hunger for freedom, the opportunity to express herself and to be able to share her music live. The album consists of nine songs. iET describes the album as her home. The songs as chambers. Each song / chamber has a different emotion. This emotion is captured by Rich Dust in a portrait of Lisa, created with elements that can be found in her immediate environment — her house and wonderful back garden.

A portrait build of red bricks; iET’s late 19th century house. Feeling safe at home. An emotion that suits the music connected to the portrait. The portrait deforms and the bricks make way for lots of plants and flowers; the wonderful back garden. Full of life. As the song predicts. But also the longing for the outside world and social contact. Recognizable to many. Trying to deal with all restrictions during the pandemic. Imprisoned in a portrait of stained glass. Difficult to break out. Feeling trapped, as you can hear in that song. To break free, feeling happy with the loved ones surrounding you. The iET portrait transforms once again. It becomes soft textile; the same material her child’s favorite cuddly toys are made of. A small world with high contrasts. Heavy emotions — light emotions.

All album portraits are created with elements that can be found in the direct living environment of iET

Audio book

Writer Marianne Clason wrote an in-depth story for each room, so that despite any restrictions, the end result of this album can be released as an audio book.

Music connects

The project continues to grow. Many people connect to Lisa’s story. The well-known ‘Kunsthal’ in Rotterdam plans to design a musical, interactive exhibition together with Lisa & Rich Dust and to launch it in the summer of 2022. The Kunsthal is a ‘magic box’ with room for new ideas and different ways of presenting art. With activities for young and old, a high regard for developing talent and cooperation with local, national and international partners, the Kunsthal serves as a podium for everyone.

The Kunsthal is a ‘magic box’ with international allure, where crossovers can be continuously discovered between different (art) disciplines
